So many wonderful things are coming into our lives these days as technology quickly brings us new conveniences and advancements. With so much positive happening around us it is too bad that there is also more need than ever to make home security a priority in our lives. However, it is encouraging to know that there are many simple tips and tricks that you can implement around your home that are actually very effective tools in improving security and deterring crime. There are really two primary categories that encompass these security tips for your home and these are low cost techniques and no cost techniques that are effective for times when you are at home, while away at the office, or away on vacation. Both approaches are important and relevant in protecting personal property and preventing theft. Even when at home in your comfortable surroundings, you can still be at risk of an aggressive intruder set on the theft of your property. Reports indicate that even while violent crimes are in decline, home burglaries are on the increase in most areas, and it happens fairly frequently that the owner is at home when these break-ins occur. One simple home security technique is to make sure all the windows are secured against unwanted entry. Windows are generally an easy point of entry, and barring windows is an easy and effective way to turn away burglars. Another easy, and cheap, way to make windows much more challenging to open is by using a piece of sturdy wood cut to just the right length and placed in the track of the window. One of the easiest entry points for the burglar is, surprisingly enough, the doors of the home. At the same time, this vulnerable entry is also one of the easiest to defend and protect. Quality locks are always a basic measure to secure your home. If your home is fairly new, it probably already has locks that are in good shape in place. However, it never hurts to carefully review their condition and have an expert look at them if you are in doubt about how well-made they are. Obviously, a dead-bolt lock, properly installed is the next layer of security. A seated door stop is another cheap and easy addition makes it harder to force a door open. Keep in mind that all exterior doors should open inward to optimize security. Every burglar has two primary enemies: light and sound. Strategic placement of outdoor lighting, especially near entrances, can be a very effective deterrent. Interior lights are also helpful. There is no need for bright lighting in every room, but even a little light will make a burglar think twice before trying to enter your home. Burglars are often clever and persistent, but they also prefer easy targets. Home security can start with making sure that a burglar does not have a good place to lurk but trimming trees and shrubs that might create hiding places, having some simple outdoor lighting, and making sure your locks are in good working order.

If you are at all concerned about the security and the safety of your business facility, then it would be wise to look at the benefits of having a burglar alarm system installed. Burglar alarm systems can be quite effective and budget-wise when there is a need to protect your premises, inventory, equipment and employees. Unfortunately, there are some business owners who hesitate to put security surveillance systems in place because they have some misunderstandings and misconceptions about these products.

As most people know, burglar alarms are designed to help you detect break-ins and intrusions into stores or warehouses. When the alarm is tripped, a monitoring company is alerted and they are able to dispatch local police to the scene to handle the problems. Today, even the most basic systems also include security surveillance systems and even remote video surveillance, adding an extra layer of functionality.

Myth Four: The system will be useless is the power goes out or the phone lines are cut. Both of these backup systems automatically kick in if problems are detected.

Myth Five: False alarms are too common and will get us in hot water with local authorities. A monitored system will first alert the monitoring center. They will attempt to contact you, or someone on your contact list, to determine if there is a real problem. This step keeps most false alarms from ever being reported to emergency agencies. If you entered the wrong code, then you will get a warning signal and still have time to re-enter the code.
